So now, when you realize all of this the big question many people have is...

To begin, here are four important factors to consider when making your decision:

1. How long has the professional been practicing

2. Does the professional have any type of focus on the jaw and bite in
addition to just dealing with teeth

3. How comfortable are you wth the professional

4. What types of braces are offered

Dr. Goodfellow's Expertise

For me personally, it is very important to know that Dr. Goodfellow in the Toronto area has been a dentist since 1978. That type of experience is important.

Even more relevant to me though is that since 1999 Dr. Goodfellow has invested thousands of hours in training related to the jaw and bite. This was to deepen his understanding with respect to patients that need any type of help that may involve the jaw and bite. This includes those with TMJ pain, snoring or sleep apnea problems and, of course, those looking for braces.

You see, braces may not just invlove the teeth. The jaw and bite can be big issues to consider as well.

I feel very comforable in dealing with Dr. Goodfellow and that is why I recommend him so highly. Soon I will have a video of him posted here so you can get a better insight into his expertise before you even call his office.

In the meantime, here is a "before and after photo" of a 11 year old patient of Dr. Goodfellow named Samantha.

Different Types Of Braces To Consider

There are three main types of braces for you to consider:

1. Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are the standard type of braces most people are familiar with. When you get this type of braces you will have metla brackets fixed to the front of your teeth. A metal wire will be used together with these brackets to adjust the positioning of your teeth

2. Clear Ceraminc Braces

Advancements in dentistry have resulted in ceramics that are close to being the natural colour of teeth. The brackets are still placed on the front of the teeth but at least they are not nearly as visible as the metal ones

3. Invisible Braces

For those people wanting the benefits from having braces while also having them be as invisible as possible, perhaps the best way to accomplish this is with what is referred to as "lingual" braces. Quite simply, the brackets are placed on the back side of the teeth so, essentially, they are invisible to others.

Getting A Proper Diagnosis

As mentioned earlier, getting braces from an orthodontics dentist or orthodontist can involve just the teeth or may also need to involve the jaw and bite. Every patients' situation is unique so it can be very helpful to deal with a professional with as much experience with the teeth, jaw and bite as possible.
